Desire in the Gambling Game

Synopsis

In the card shark's night game, the clatter of cards cannot drown out the panting—what is wagered is chips, but even more who gets wet first, who gets hard first; the con ensnares desire, and beneath false smiles they feel each other out; whoever falls first is drained to the last drop, and under the table it is all the sound of water; win or loss has long since left the cards and become how it ends in bed.
